'Managing people is the most difficult, but the most challenging function of a manager' 1. Introduction To become increasingly competitive, many companies have gone through a restructuring process which has involved the leveling of the management structure, the empowerment of employees and most importantly, the development of work groups known as 'Teams'. As a result, the need for a training vehicle that can enhance the development of organisational commitment and teamwork is in high demand. This type of training usually involves the development of a variety of professional and personal skills ranging from the development of communication and leadership skills through to the management of conflict and change. This is known as Management Training. 2. Programme Aim This programme presents a framework for understanding the overall processes involved in the effective management of people. It focuses on the development of a variety of personal and professional skills that are designed to meet the individual and group needs of the organisation so that the learning is both relevant and beneficial to the work place. 3. Outcomes At the completion of this programme the participants will: have a better understanding of the overall
issues affecting managers within the workplace. have an understanding of the different strategies
used to deal with these issues within the work place. develop a framework for transferring their learning back to their work environment. Please note this programme consists of a number of individual training sessions all with their own objectives and outcomes. These sessions have been specifically chosen to provide the participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage their staff more effectively in the work place. 4. Methods This programme incorporates the use of presentation, group facilitation, case studies, group activities and discussion. 5. Programme Outline The following chart provides an outline of the different sessions that will be incorporated into the management development programme. These can be presented in a six-day format over a period of six or twelve months (One day per month or one day every two months) or over a five day residential course. Each session is approximately three to four hours in duration.
